Martinez to Henry Cowell Redwoods SP (via San Francisco)

The drive into San Fran was a veritable shrine to the freeway overpass; a land where roads (and houses) are stacked in defiance of God and nature.

We spent the afternoon picnicking and playing in Golden Gate Park, thoroughly enjoying the Koret Children's Quarter (the oldest public playground in the US) with its concrete slides (more fun than they sound) and beautiful carousel.

Heading to Santa Cruz, we spent the night camped in a sycamore forest beside a redwood-filled valley that we had a chance to explore a bit with an after-dinner walk.
